Project Description
Zione Chiya, Guruguru village Malawi
‘I have seen so much change as girls now have become more ambitious as back then all they wanted to be was a mother and a wife’.
Zione grew up in a family where her father has two wives. She has 12 siblings. She goes to Maula community day secondary school and is 3rdclass. Zione is a peer educator in the MTBA project.
I joined this program in 2017 and became a peer educator last year 2018 July. I have seen so much change as girls now have become more ambitious as back then all they wanted to be was a mother and a wife. As we hold meetings we discuss are visions and goals and for now and when I had just joined their mindset has changed a big deal. Parents now are able to understand that if a girl gets pregnant she should not be forced to get married. Most parents also taking part in enforcing this and are also becoming more responsible to send their children to school.
After I had become part of the programme, I moved from area to are giving messages of SRH and harmful effects of child marriage. This program has encouraged me to work hard as I get inspired by the young Genet employees. Now I believe I can become a police woman in the child protection department and arrest all those that want to perpetrate violence against girls and children.
I am now independent mentally. I can negotiate for safe sex and keep myself in school until I realize my dream. I am now a confident public speaker and I have stood in different podiums without fear, and all this because Genet helped.
